Members ventured out to Carlisle, MA to visit the beautiful Joe Pye Weed garden, a mail order plant nursery specializing in Siberian Irises, Species Irises, and Interspecies hybrids.
Charles River Conservancy
After CP&GC member Renata von Tscharner founded Charles River Conservancy in 2000, the Conservancy continues to thrive under a new director. CP&GC has collaborated on multiple projects with the Conservancy, most recently at Hell’s Half Acre to reclaim the river bank.
History Cambridge Hooper-Lee-Nichols
CP&GC has long worked at the site of the second oldest house in Cambridge. Donating and planting trees, renovating the Colonial Revival fence and gate, planting thousands of spring bulbs, managing lawn care, completing myriad clean ups among many other contributions.
Cooper-Frost-Austin
Cooper-Frost-Austin House is the oldest documented house in Cambridge and owned by Historic New England. A propaated clone of the “Longfellow Linden” was planted there by CP&GC.
On The Rise
On The Rise is a day program in mid-Cambridge that provides safety, community, and advocacy for homeless and formerly homeless women.
Cambridge Community Center
The Cambridge Community Center has been serving children, youth, and families throughout Cambridge for over 90 years. A long-time project for CP&GC, we hope to again garden there.
Blair Pond
Blair Pond is a one-acre clay pit dug tucked in a seven-acre reservation. Now part of the DCR’s Alewife Reservation, CP&GC partnered with the small but mighty Friends of Blair Pond and the DCR to develop a plant survey and planting plan for the site.
Cambridge Common
The Cambridge Common is a central component of busy Harvard Square, and its 16 acres are traversed by an estimated 10,000+ pedestrians and cyclists daily. This urban green space is a National Historic Landmark where George Washington took command of the Continental Army.

Cambridge Commission on Public Planting
In the ’70s, two activist members proposed and established the Cambridge Committee on Public Planting to advise and support the city in improving public planting. Expertise of club members is a significant resource as the City maintains existing public plantings and considers new ones.
CP&GC joined in Lowell Park Memorial Restoration Unveiling
Along with other organizations, CP&GC was instrumental in the completion of a $1.4 million project to restore and improve access at Lowell Memorial Park in Cambridge.

Discover Cambridge Pocket Parks is a publication of the Cambridge Plant & Garden Club in cooperation with the City of Cambridge. For the first time 21 small “pocket parks” scattered through the City of Cambridge are identified and celebrated.
CP&GC Honors Ekua Holmes: GCA Commendation for Civic Improvement
CP&GC has been greatly enriched by its association with Ekua Holmes, a Boston-based mixed-media artist and children’s book illustrator. This spring, CP&GC was pleased to be able to honor Ms. Holmes with a Garden Club of America Commendation for Civic Improvement.
