History Cambridge Hooper-Lee-Nichols
CP&GC has long worked at the site of the second oldest house in Cambridge. Donating and planting trees, renovating the Colonial Revival fence and gate, planting thousands of spring bulbs, managing lawn care, completing myriad clean ups among many other contributions.
Cooper-Frost-Austin
Cooper-Frost-Austin House is the oldest documented house in Cambridge and owned by Historic New England. A propaated clone of the “Longfellow Linden” was planted there by CP&GC.
Blair Pond
Blair Pond is a one-acre clay pit dug tucked in a seven-acre reservation. Now part of the DCR’s Alewife Reservation, CP&GC partnered with the small but mighty Friends of Blair Pond and the DCR to develop a plant survey and planting plan for the site.
Cambridge Common
The Cambridge Common is a central component of busy Harvard Square, and its 16 acres are traversed by an estimated 10,000+ pedestrians and cyclists daily. This urban green space is a National Historic Landmark where George Washington took command of the Continental Army.
Craigie Street Park
In 2009, city officials joined with West Cambridge neighbors and CP&GC to dedicate and reopen Craigie Street Park.
CP&GC Honors Ekua Holmes: GCA Commendation for Civic Improvement
CP&GC has been greatly enriched by its association with Ekua Holmes, a Boston-based mixed-media artist and children’s book illustrator. This spring, CP&GC was pleased to be able to honor Ms. Holmes with a Garden Club of America Commendation for Civic Improvement.
Planting Seeds of Peace and Beauty for Ukraine
On the morning of Saturday, June 4, twenty-three CP&GC members and friends mobilized to plant the young sunflowers.
CP&GC Partners with Roxbury Sunflower Project and Prospect Hill Academy
The students at Prospect Hill Academy partnered with CP&GC during the COVID lockdowns. The club looked for novel ways to engage with the community and, specifically, with local students remotely, to inspire in students a closer connection with nature, public spaces, and knowledge of the plant world.
