CP&GC members engaged in four mornings of planting on behalf of the City
This effort began with the city identifying the public areas in need of attention, purchasing the spring bulbs, and then inviting CP&GC members to do the planting.
After a fruitful four days of planting in the fall, the sunshine and warm temperatures this spring, brought a burst of blooms to several parks in Cambridge. A great partnership that resulted in the planting of more than 1200 bulbs around Cambridge!
The curb area in front of the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House recently had pavement reduced and new trees planted by the city. CP&GC improved this new area even further with the addition of Christmas ferns, white woodland asters, and a few new bulbs. CP&GC has gardened at the house for more than sixty years and during 2024, installed a new, mostly native garden and planted a white Oak in the front. The club will be doing additional upgrades and planting along the east side of the house in spring 2025 all in coordination with History Cambridge, the occupants of the house.
At Sennott Park near Central Square volunteers from CP&GC planted 500 daffodils while over in North Cambridge near Rindge field and the tennis courts on Pemberton Street more daffodils and narcissus were planted. Along the beautiful mural at this site newly planted allium are in bloom this spring.
The last day of work brought members to Lower Longfellow Park where an additional 250 daffodil bulbs were planted in one corner of the park and alliums were added to the perennial gardens near the bust of Mr. Longfellow.
We are enjoying the Works Committee's hard work and beautiful flowers along with all of Cambridge this spring!
